I earned a law degree from Texas Southern University.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in community counseling from Georgia State University.
Highlights of your civic involvement/accomplishment:
1982: Started work as a criminal prosecutor for Dallas County. Worked my way up to handling felony child abuse cases, later becoming the first official Chief of the Child Abuse Division.

1989: Became the first African-American woman to serve as a state criminal district judge in Texas, serving for 17 years. As judge, I handled thousands of felony cases including drug possession, theft, sexual assault, child abuse, and capital murder.

2014: Appointed to the Texas Public Safety Commission, where, as one of five commissioners, I oversaw homeland security, border patrol, and anti-terrorism efforts in Texas.

2016: Appointed Dallas County District Attorney by Governor Abbott.

2019: Appointed to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice

2019: Appointed to the Windham School District Board of Trustees

2019: Received the Achievement Award presented by South Central District Conference

2019: Received the Deborah Award for Visionary Leadership presented by Genesis Women's Shelter

Several other awards received: Community Service Award presented by Concord Missionary Baptist Church, Community Service Award presented by the State Fair of Texas, Outstanding Leadership Award presented by Calvary Temple Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and Outstanding Community Service Award presented by the NAACP (Waxahachie Branch)
