13 recent restaurant closures in Dallas, Denton, McKinney, Frisco and more

We added two more: A dessert shop and club in Uptown and a bar in East Dallas.

When the summer heat moved into North Texas, some restaurants moved out. We say goodbye to three bars in East Dallas, a vegan restaurant in Koreatown, a pizza joint in Flower Mound, a high-end restaurant on Oak Lawn Avenue and more.

Despite news that Italian chain Buca di Beppo would close a few dozen restaurants nationwide, none of them appear to be in North Texas.

Restaurants listed in alphabetical order.

After nearly four years serving cocktails and food near White Rock Lake, East Dallas restaurant BarNone is closing at the end of the day on Aug. 13, 2024. Owners Jennifer Rhode Dickerson and Todd Dickerson opened the restaurant in December 2020 and said the restaurant shouldered its way through the COVID-19 pandemic but can’t live on. “This is hard,” Jennifer said. “We love this community.”

BarNone is at 718 N. Buckner Blvd., Dallas. It closes at 11:55 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2024.

Craft Beer Cellar was part beer store, part bar — a franchise that expanded to Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood about eight years ago. During its time on Gaston Avenue, CBC sold growlers, crowlers, six packs and freshly-pulled pints. It seemed like the kind of place where beer drinkers could small-talk a stranger while tasting a new beer or two. The shop closed July 31, 2024, according to Instagram, following a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing earlier this year. Owner Jim Waskow noted on Instagram that the lease expired. Shame: It was among our 11 favorite beer hangouts in Dallas.

Craft Beer Cellar was at 6324 Gaston Ave., Dallas.

Eddie V’s Prime Seafood in Dallas

After 14 years on Oak Lawn Avenue, fine dining restaurant Eddie V’s Prime Seafood served its last dinner on July 28, 2024. The restaurant’s parent company said the decision to close came after a performance assessment. Fans of Eddie V’s can rest easy knowing the Plano and Fort Worth locations will remain open.

Eddie V’s Prime Seafood was at 4023 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas.

The Chicago-based restaurant group behind Federales closed the Deep Ellum restaurant on July 2, 2024, according to Instagram. Co-founder Matt Menna didn’t return a request for comment. In 2020, he described the restaurant as a tequila beer garden and taco shop with “a lot of energy and grit.” We named it one of the most exciting restaurants to open the next year; it made a delayed debut a few months later, in 2022.

Federales was at 2820 Commerce St., Dallas.

Goji Cafe in Dallas’ Koreatown

Healthy Asian food restaurant Goji Cafe is closing, CultureMap reports. A meetup organized by DFW Veggie Lovers encouraged fans to revisit the restaurant before the end of July 2024. Goji Cafe served plant-based proteins and vegan and veggie dishes like spring rolls and zucchini pho. Owners didn’t respond to a request for details on the closure. CM notes that the owners also operate D’Vegan in Dallas.

Goji Cafe was at 2330 Royal Lane, Dallas.

Dallas Farmers Market adjacent bar Green Door Public House closed after 10 years, according to Facebook. We’ve asked the owners whether the “closed for renovations” sign on the door is temporary or permanent. CultureMap noted that the building was sold in July 2024 and sales were down. The company also owns Harwood Tavern located 0.1 miles away. The Facebook post invites customers there instead.

Green Door Public House was at 600 S. Harwood St., Dallas.

Hattie B’s in Deep Ellum

It was a surprise to see Nashville hot chicken spot Hattie B’s close in Deep Ellum because its entry into Dallas was fiery. Lines formed down Main Street when Hattie B’s opened in February 2022. The company didn’t give a reason for the closure, citing an “operational” decision. But here’s some good news: The Hattie B’s team plans to open another location in Dallas at 3827 Lemmon Ave. in fall 2024. Hattie B’s last day in Deep Ellum was Aug. 2, 2024.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken was at 3000 Main St., Dallas.

KSP Henderson in East Dallas

The latest iteration of Knox Street Pub, KSP Henderson, has shuttered. Knox Street Pub started on Dallas’ Knox Street decades ago, then made the move to McKinney Avenue and later to East Dallas’ Henderson Avenue. Knox Street Pub and its newer KSP, which opened in 2021, had been described as come-as-you-are bars. It isn’t clear what caused the closure.

Pepitas in Denton — shifting to takeout

The dining room at Denton vegan restaurant Pepitas closed on July 14, 2024, but the restaurant is now back open for takeout. The owners write on Instagram that Pepitas is now a ghost kitchen. (Ghost kitchens make and serve food for delivery or takeout, a model that existed before the COVID-19 pandemic but became much more popular in the past few years.)

Pepitas is a Mexican vegan restaurant that serves empanadas, burritos, quesadillas and tacos. All are filled with vegetables and/or soy-based protein. The owners are originally from Zacatecas, Mexico, CM reports.

Pepitas remains at 1115 W. Hickory St., Denton, but for takeout and delivery only.

Pie Hole in Flower Mound

Pizza restaurant Pie Hole closed July 28, 2024 in Flower Mound’s River Walk district. A report from Community Impact says the restaurant was open less than a year, since November 2023. Pie Hole’s website says unused gift cards can be used at Underdogs, Pennywise Pub or Whiskey & Smoke, three neighboring restaurants at The River Walk Flower Mound.

The River Walk opened in Flower Mound in 2021 after developer Mehrdad Moayedi picked up the defaulted project. None of the original restaurants from 2021 are still open in the development.

Pie Hole was at 4120 Riverwalk Drive, Flower Mound.

Sugar Factory in Uptown Dallas

Some of Dallas’ most surprising desserts were made at Sugar Factory, the Las Vegas-born restaurant with a penchant for sparklers and sprinkles. But Sugar Factory wasn’t really a dessert shop: It was a restaurant, nightclub, DJ spot and sweets shop all in one. A spokeswoman says the Uptown Dallas restaurant, now closed, will reopen at an undisclosed location and time.

Sugar Factory was at 1900 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas.

Tabu Shabu in McKinney

The McKinney location of Japanese hot pot restaurant Tabu Shabu closed June 30, 2024, according to CI. The restaurant’s owners shared the closing announcement on Facebook. Tabu Shabu started in 2012 in California and is now a franchise with several locations. The McKinney location was its only presence in Texas.

Tabu Shabu was located at 1620 N. Hardin Blvd., McKinney.

Taco Shack in Frisco

Austin restaurant Taco Shack has closed its only North Texas restaurant, in Frisco, CI noted. The casual restaurant sold low-priced taco plates on weekdays and breakfast tacos in the morning. It opened in late 2019.
