One of Dallas’ ‘most exciting restaurants,’ Mendocino Farms, has opened in Dallas

It’s on Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas.

Mendocino Farms, a California sandwich and salad shop, has opened a restaurant on Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas, as of March 11.

We called Mendo one of Dallas’ “most exciting restaurants" opening in 2020. I noted that healthy, fast, fashionable food is having a major moment in Dallas, and this coming-soon restaurant seems to fit right in with other fast-casual shops like Flower Child and Original ChopShop.

Mendocino Farms first launched in Los Angeles in 2005. Today, it has nearly three-dozen restaurants across the country. All are in California except for a handful of open and coming-soon restaurants in Houston.

The Ross Avenue shop is Dallas’ first.

The restaurant’s hope is “to be a neighborhood gathering place,” says CEO Kevin Miles, a Dallas native, in a statement. It was started by Mario Del Pero and Ellen Chen, a husband and wife who wanted to open a shop with a “farm-to-table philosophy,” according to a company statement.

The restaurant has vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. Some of the sandwich items on the menu include a fried chicken sandwich, a “not so fried” chicken sandwich, a hot Italian hoagie and a pork belly banh mi. Salads include a chicken cobb, caesar, beet-and-goat-cheese, and avocado-quinoa.

Dallas’ first Mendocino Farms is part of the large-scale renovation of the Trammell Crow Center project in downtown Dallas. Need a wayfinder? It’s on Ross Avenue near a gaggle of new restaurants: all-day eatery Sloane’s Corner; pizza and pasta restaurant 400 Gradi, and coffee, wine and boutique grocery store Royal Blue Grocery.

Mendocino Farms is at 2000 Ross Ave., Dallas.
