Tacos Mariachi owner will open taco shop in West Dallas with new name, Milagro

Milagro will serve Tijuana street tacos.

Tacos Mariachi, the restaurant visited by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in West Dallas, will not reopen after shuttering during the pandemic. Dallas’ second Tacos Mariachi, on Lowest Greenville, will not reopen, either. But there is new life for this well-liked taco shop: Owner Jesus Carmona plans to open a similar restaurant named Milagro in Dallas’ Trinity Groves.

Milagro is about 450 feet east of the original, on Singleton Boulevard.

“I can’t wait to unveil Milagro and show everyone what we’ve been working on,” Carmona says in a statement.

Milagro means “miracle” in Spanish. And perhaps it is: Carmona promised his loyal customers that a Tacos Mariachi spinoff would reopen somewhere, someday after both restaurants closed. During the pandemic, Carmona opened a sit-down Argentinian restaurant named Chimichurri in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District.

Milagro will sell Tijuana street tacos, as did Tacos Mariachi. A press release says the new restaurant will have carryover menu items from Tacos Mariachi as well as some new additions. Carmona’s delicious pulpo (octopus) taco will be on the menu. We’re also rooting for La Prensa, a grilled chicken and veggies taco with jalapeño aioli. (La prensa means “the press,” and it was named for my Dallas Morning News colleagues who were regulars at the West Dallas shop.)

Beyond tacos, Milagro will also serve a burger with avocado mousse, sauteed shrimp, crumbled chicharron and jalapeño glaze. Other menu items include ceviche and veggie bowls.

Carmona’s taco shop was a popular destination in Trinity Groves when it opened in 2015, and it’s noteworthy that he is returning to the same neighborhood for his next venture. In keeping with Trinity Groves’ new business structure, Milagro is not an incubator, which means Trinity Groves investors do not own a share of the business.

Carmona says he’s ready to serve new and returning customers.

“I’m so passionate about Tijuana’s rich culture and cuisine, and I can’t wait to share tacos, ceviche and plenty of good conversations in the new restaurant,” Carmona says.

Milagro will be at 440 Singleton Blvd., Dallas. It’s expected to open in May 2021.
