Uchi in Dallas was once one of the toughest places to get a restaurant reservation in town. Now, you don’t even need to get dressed for a taste from the sushi bar: Uchi and Uchiba will sell sushi boxes via Uber Eats delivery starting June 18, 2024.
The date coincides with the opening of Uchiko in Plano’s Legacy West (which will not be selling sushi boxes).
The effort is a company-wide strategy from Hai Hospitality, which owns and operates restaurants across America, from Los Angeles to Miami. The company has a concentration of restaurants in Texas, where chef-founder Tyson Cole started Uchi.
When Uchi opened in Dallas in 2015, sushi aficionados made big plans to eat nigiri and crudo in Uptown. It would be five more years before Uchi would offer sushi to-go. Uchi and its affiliated restaurants joined the takeout train during the COVID-19 pandemic, as most restaurants did while dining rooms were closed.
These 2024 sushi delivery boxes are a new way for Uchi to “elevate the at-home experience,” said executive pastry chef Ariana Quant in a statement. Quant created the three-box menu.
They come in three sizes and cost $95, $195 or $295. They’re named Ichi, Ni and San, which are the words for 1, 2 and 3 in Japanese.
The $95 Ichi box has 12 pieces of nigiri; two rolls, or makimono; and the restaurant’s famous Hama Chili, a cold dish of raw yellowtail, oranges and Thai chiles sitting in a shallow pool of ponzu.
The $195 Ni box includes all elements of the first box, plus a chef’s selection of five more varieties of fish.
The $295 San box combines the first two boxes, plus two tins of caviar, potato chips and crème fraîche.
The sushi boxes are available for pre-order on June 17, 2024, and delivery begins June 18, 2024 via Uber Eats. Takeout is also available.
