Several McKinney restaurants have opened in the past few weeks. The theme? Eggs.

The newest McKinney restaurant is Broken Yolk Cafe, which “cracked open” its doors June 26, 2024, according to a press release. (We like a pun.) Broken Yolk has healthy breakfast options like a scrambled egg white wrap and a vegan bowl with plant-based eggs and veggies, as well as omelets, Benedicts, biscuits and gravy, and more. There’s lunch, too. Find it at District 121, a $250 million development at State Highway 121 and Alma Road. Now open at 6651 Alma Road, Suite 250, McKinney.

Earlier in the month, Maple Street Biscuit Company opened on W. University Drive, according to Community Impact. It’s a brunch-lovers dream, with eggs, bacon, sausage and more served on biscuits or in tacos. Maple Street Biscuit already has locations in Frisco, Wylie, Dallas and Keller. Now open at 4020 W. University Drive, Suite 100, McKinney.

Cane Rosso was born and bred in Dallas.

Cane Rosso pizza joint continues its expansion across North Texas. Its latest restaurant opened June 19, 2024 in Lake Highlands. It replaced the last existing Taco Diner, a restaurant unaffiliated with Cane Rosso that had a 25-year run in Dallas. Cane Rosso has been serving Neapolitan pizza since 2011 in Deep Ellum. It now has eight restaurants in North Texas. Now open at 7150 Skillman St., Suite 190, Dallas.

You want more Cane Rosso? Sachse announced a new Cane Rosso coming by the end of 2024. “It’s ambitious, but we’d love to be open during the holiday season,” said Cane Rosso parent company president Steve Smullen of the restaurant north of Rowlett and south of Murphy and Wylie. The restaurant will open in The Station, a mixed-use development in Sachse. Those who haven’t been to a Cane Rosso yet might appreciate this bit of trivia: It got national attention when it was featured on Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2012 and on spinoff show Triple D Nation in 2020. Host Guy Fieri called Cane Rosso’s pizza “gangsta” on DDD. Coming to The Station in Sachse, 5421 The Station Blvd., Suite B150, in late 2024.

Last rites for 2 Fort Worth restaurants

Two iconic Fort Worth restaurants are leaving their longtime homes on June 30, 2024. Good news: Both will reopen elsewhere in Fort Worth.

Reata closes in Sundance Square in late June and is expected to move to Throckmorton Street in downtown Fort Worth in July 2024. Reata served cowboy cooking in Sundance for 22 years. Open through dinner on June 30, 2024 at 310 Houston St., Fort Worth, then moving to 530 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth, in July 2024.

Los Vaqueros’ story is similar: It closes in late June in the Stockyards and is expected to move to a new Stockyards address in July 2024. Los Vaqueros is a family-owned restaurant that has been in the Stockyards since 1982, occupying a building that’s more than 100 years old, our Claire Ballor reported. It’ll move and reopen a half-mile away. Open through dinner on June 30, 2024 at 2629 North Main St., Fort Worth, then moving to 2513 Rodeo Plaza, Forth Worth, in July 2024.

We’ve said it: 2024 is the year of the reinvented restaurant. The two restaurants above are proof, and allow us to add one more: Wild Salsa reopened in downtown Fort Worth on June 4, 2024 after an incredible four years closed, starting at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CEO took a wait-and-see approach with all of his restaurants, including sibling spot Wicked Butcher. Wild Salsa’s menu includes fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, margaritas and more. Now open at 300 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth.

Other suburban D-FW restaurants to look forward to

Burger joint Rodeo Goat is expanding into Addison in fall 2024. This casual haunt serves some of the best burgers in Dallas-Fort Worth, in my opinion. It replaces a former Spring Creek BBQ near Midway and Belt Line roads. It’s close to the old Flying Saucer, a sibling restaurant known for its craft beer selection until it closed in late 2020. Co-founder Shannon Wynne said he hopes the Saucer’s “beerknurds,” as they’re called, belly up at Rodeo Goat for a drink. Coming to 14941 Midway Road, Addison, in fall 2024.

Iconic Chicago Italian beef sandwich spot Portillo’s announced this week it will expand to Grapevine in 2024. Portillo’s currently has five restaurants in North Texas, with Mansfield and Grapevine coming next. When news broke that the more-than-60-year-old company would expand into Texas, the story was The Dallas Morning Newsmost-read story of 2022. Fervor continues today. Coming to Highway 114 and South Main Street, Grapevine, by the end of 2024.

Extra, extra

The execs behind DFW Restaurant Week named July 8 as Reservation Day. What does this mean? On July 8, 2024, scan the list of participating restaurants (which is not available yet) and snag reservations for your favorite restaurants. Prices vary, but dinners mostly cost $49 to $59 per person, and dates range from Aug. 5 through Sept. 1, 2024. About 20% of sales go to the North Texas Food Bank or Lena Pope.

And we’ll end on a sizzling note: Neapolitan pizza shop Partenope Ristorante was named the 12th best pizzeria in the country by 50 Top Pizza USA 2024. It was the only Texas restaurant in the top 20. Partenope has been on the list for several years, and it’s climbing. Go try some pies from husband-wife owners Dino and Megan Santonicola at one of their two locations, in downtown Dallas or in Richardson. Partenope is at 1903 Main St., Dallas, and 110 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson.
