Maybe it’s all about the Dallas views for Miriam Latina Cocina.
The restaurant that opened across the street from Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park in 2019 will expand to Cypress Waters, the lakefront community tucked off of I-635, near the corners of Coppell, Carrollton, Irving and Dallas.
Miriam 2.0 is expected to open around Dec. 1, 2024, in the restaurant space that was once Ascension Coffee. The development, while hidden from major roads, sits near a once-quiet lake that now hosts Fourth of July parties, evening concerts and the like. Dallas developer Billingsley Co. is building out a 1,000-acre community with more than 3,000 multifamily units and over a dozen restaurants, along with plentiful office space.
More than 16,000 workers office in Cypress Waters. Many work for major corporations based in the neighborhood, including 7-Eleven, Nokia, At Home Group, Smoothie King Franchise Inc., and Brinker International (which owns Chili’s and Maggianos).
And those folks need to eat.
Miriam will be the fourth restaurant in the development from Dallas restaurateur Shannon Wynne and his team. Their existing restaurants in Cypress Waters are Flying Saucer, Flying Fish and Rodeo Goat.
“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership and the trust that restaurateur Shannon Wynne has placed in Cypress Waters,” said Tracy Underwood, senior vice president of asset management at Billingsley, in a statement. “We’re confident that Miriam’s amazing cuisine, paired with the stunning lakefront patio, will be a favorite among the surrounding communities, apartment residents and office tenants.”
Miriam is named for the boss, Miriam Jimenez, who is from the Dominican Republic. She’s an ebullient host. Her menu includes shareable dishes like yuca fritters and empanadas; salads with grilled chicken, shrimp, steak or salmon; tacos and enchiladas of all kinds; and entrees like fried whole snapper, fileted mahi mahi, and cabrito with cilantro rice and sweet plantains.
At brunch, the menu includes short rib enchiladas with eggs, breakfast tacos and chilaquiles.
Miriam’s menu in Cypress Waters will be finalized closer to the opening date, Wynne said.
He said of Miriam: “I think people in that part of the world will love her.”
Miriam Latina Cocina will be at 3121 Olympus Blvd., Coppell. It’s expected to open in late 2024.
