Baseball/softball: Texas A&M signee shines for No. 1 FM Marcus; Carroll extends win streak

Mansfield, Royse City win on walk-off hits; nationally ranked Lake Ridge, Guyer stay unbeaten.

Game of the night

Clinging to a one-run lead for most of Friday night, Texas A&M signee Caden Sorrell of Flower Mound Marcus had to be nearly perfect on the mound to keep the Dallas area’s No. 1-ranked baseball team in the lead.

Sorrell was brilliant in pitching a two-hit shutout and striking out eight — and he also homered — as Marcus beat Coppell 3-0. Marcus, ranked No. 3 in the state, got a run in the bottom of the first when Nick Mazzola scored on a wild pitch, but the score stayed that way until the sixth, when Sorrell led off with a home run and another run scored on a sacrifice.
