Dallas Fuel pick up ex-Atlanta Reign hitscan ‘Edison’ during busy Overwatch League offseason

“Edison” and “ChiYo” are the newest members of the Dallas Fuel.

The Dallas Fuel have a hitscan player.

Former Atlanta Reign star Kim “Edison” Tae-hoon has signed with Dallas Fuel, general manager Mat “TazMo” Taylor told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday. The Fuel later confirmed the announcement on Twitter.

Edison became the second player to be signed by the Fuel this offseason, following Wednesday’s signing of main support Han “ChiYo” Hyeonseok. Dallas now has seven players going into the first season of Overwatch League play with Overwatch 2′s 5-vs-5 format.

Hitscan players are quite a rarity in Dallas. Jung “Xzi” Gi-hyo had to retire due to medical issues before the 2021 season, and Kim “Pine” Dohyeon wasn’t able to get to Dallas fast enough to be integrated into the team.

“To be quite honest, we’ve always looked at and thought Edison was a good candidate, even throughout this season,” Taylor said. “But he was on Atlanta, so we obviously couldn’t do anything there.”

The Fuel also liked that Tae-hoon was an ex-teammate of Dallas support player Kwon “Fielder” Jun, and Kwon spoke highly of him.

Edison matches the mold of players the Fuel have looked for: young and able to learn. Dallas head coach Yun “RUSH” Heewon wanted to develop players as they grow into their OWL careers.

Dallas didn’t have any hitscan players and the Reign may have possessed too many. Kai “Kai” Collins was the Reign’s go-to McCree player through a good portion of the recent season, and helped lead Atlanta to a second-place finish in the OWL playoffs.

“I do think he has stuff to prove because his first season was really good,” Taylor said. “Everybody was talking about Edison, Kai and (Oh “Pelican” Se-hyun), and Edison did play a fair amount.

“It could have been a language barrier or anything, but we’re very happy with him and he performed very well in tryouts on top of us already thinking he was a good fit.”

The Fuel have everything they’d need for a run in Overwatch 2, but could still be in the market for players if others stood out mechanically.

The Fuel are confident they can make a star out of Edison.
