Coach of the Year

Stephen Pearce, Wylie

The District 10-6A coach of the year led Wylie to the first state tournament appearance in school history, and Pearce’s 32-7 team set a school record for most wins in a season. Wylie wasn’t in the top 25 in the final state rankings, but it beat third-ranked Killeen Ellison 50-42 in the 6A Region II final to make it to state. Wylie is the only place that Pearce has been a head coach, and he has a record of 127-64 in six seasons. Pearce played football, basketball and baseball at Wylie, and he threw for 5,243 yards and 40 touchdowns in two years as the Pirates’ quarterback and was inducted into Wylie’s Sports Hall of Honor. He played football at Tulsa as a college freshman, then played basketball at Collin College as a sophomore.
