Through six innings, neither team got on the board. Only one runner made it to third base in that span, and no one made it home. Legacy, which fell to 13-9-1, put up a strong defensive fight, but could only hold for so long against the state’s top 6A team.

Natalie Moreaux pitched all seven innings on the mound for Legacy, recording 13 strikeouts. It ultimately came down to two errors in the field that allowed Lake Ridge to get on the board in the top of the seventh. Jordan Householder and Ryan Roberts scored on a bunt from Paris Johnson and fly out from Tia Warsop.

Lake Ridge’s defense held strong during Legacy’s comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh. The final out came on a strikeout from Avery Hoang — her 10th of the day. The Lake Ridge pitcher did not allow a single run, hit or walk in the game.

Lake Ridge has still only lost one game since April 8 of last year, that game being the state final against San Antonio O’Connor. Its win Tuesday night pushes it in the right direction toward a second consecutive state appearance.
